(Second) The Centers Organizational Structure Consists of the
following Units 1.
Publication Unit: -
The Center supervises six types of publication. These are:
(A) Registry of Current Events in the Gulf and
Arabian Peninsula Geographical Region:
This is a periodical journal that registers current events in
the Gulf region, the first issue of which was published in the
spring of 1997.A total of 41 volumes
have been published so far. (March 2007)
(B) Special Issues Series:
The center publishes a series of special issues relevant to the
Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region. This is a refereed scientific
series. The first issue was published in 1997. Each issue
tackles a specialized research paper. The Center adopts the same
regulations and standards observed in publishing research in
scientific journals by the Publication Council of Kuwait

(C) Volumes of the Gulf & Arabian Peninsula Documents:
These Volumes, published by the Center, incorporate all the
important documents issued by official bodies and institutions
in the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region. These documents
register current political, economic, social and cultural events
in the region. The first volume of such documents was published
in 1975 (8) and work is currently ongoing to publish more of
these volumes. (See list of the Centers publications)
(D) Publication Series of Conference and Symposia
Proceedings:
This series publishes research papers and studies presented in
conferences and symposia organized by the Center. The first
volume was published in 1993. (See list of the Centers

(E) Dissertations Abstracts Series:
In the beginning of 2005, the Center started a new publication
dedicated to dissertations abstracts (M.A. and PhD) by
researchers interested in the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region
and its geographical surroundings. This new series aims to
encourage researchers and specialists to publish their
dissertations abstracts. Moreover, the Center aims to create a
link with these researchers. (See list of the Centers
publications)
(F) Guide to M.A. and Ph.D. Dissertations in the Gulf and
Arabian Peninsula Region:
This guide presents all necessary data about M.A. and Ph.D.
dissertations and their authors. The selected dissertations must
be relevant to the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region. Authors of
these dissertations are either staff members at Kuwait
University or at other GCC Universities. The guide is intended
to assist researchers interested in the region. It is in two
volumes:

2. Cultural Activities
Unit:
This unit supervises and organizes cultural activities of the
Center, such as conferences, seminars and symposia. In addition,
this unit also supervises participation in book fairs organized
by the National Council for Culture, Arts & Letters, Ministry of
Information, especially Kuwait International Book Fair. The
number of conferences, seminars and symposia organized by the
Center exceed 17 so far.
3. Newspaper Archives:
Since it was established in 1999 this unit has been responsible
for collecting, archiving, classifying all information in daily
newspapers and weekly magazines published in and around the Gulf
region. In cooperation with the Center for Kuwaiti Researches
and Studies, the letters relevant archives are classified,
photocopied and electronically stored on computers for future
retrieval by researchers.
4. The Internet Unit:
This unit was established in 2003 when the Center launched its
site on the internet. This site is intended to familiarize users
with the Centers activities, its publications, cultural
activities and conferences, and to facilitate contact with the
Center. In the future, the Center aims at completing its
electronic archiving and making it accessible through its
website, together with annual subscription to its electronic
publications.
5. The Library Unit:
The Centers library is the only specialized library in Kuwait
University. Among its acquisitions it has books, references,
periodicals, maps and documents pertaining to the Gulf and
Arabian Peninsula and the geographical region within close
proximity. It provides researchers and scholars in the Gulf
region affairs with an indispensable data base. It has more than
4000 titles in Arabic, 3000 different titles in foreign
languages, about a hundred periodicals in Arabic and ten in
foreign languages. The library, furthermore, has statistical
data, ministerial annual reports and reports by other government
organizations and bodies, together with records of the minutes
of the National Assembly since it was first established until
the year 1995.
6. The Information Unit:
Responsibilities of this unit include the gathering of bio-data
about researchers interested in the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula
region and its geographical surroundings, sorting and
classifying these data and entering them into the computer. This
facilitates retrieval of these data and contacting these
researchers to get them to participate in cultural activities
and refereeing academic publications whenever their help is
needed.
7. Secretarial and Administrative Affairs Unit:
This unit supervises the printing of the Center's publications
and other administrative responsibilities, prepares of the
Center's budget and monitors monthly earnings and expenditures.
These reports are then referred to the Center's Director before
sending them to the Center's Administrative Council. |
