The
Center was established by the ministerial decree No7, issued on
May 29 1994, by the Minister of Higher Education and the Supreme
President of Kuwait University. The Center is one of specialized
centers for research and studies in the gulf and Arabian
Peninsula region, and is chaired by the Vice-President of Kuwait
University for Research. It is currently located on the Shuweikh
campus.
The Center has a number of objectives, foremost among
which is to publish research papers and specialized studies in
the region, to observe and record problems relevant to the rapid
social and cultural changes, and the most important development
issues in the region. It also aims at collecting historical
documents and all data and information pertinent to the region.
In doing this it aims at highlighting the environmental
uniqueness of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region.
The Center has a number of varied activities ranging
from holding symposia, seminars and conferences, to supervising
academic publications such as the series of Gulf Documents, the
Special Issues series and Records of Current Events.
Organization Structure of the Center: Furthermore, the
Center has its own bylaws and staff organization system. It is
divided into specialized work units: Academic Publications,
Cultural Activities, Newspapers Archives, the Internet and the
Library.
Since 2003, the Center has become a member of the
Association of Documentation and Study Centers in GCC states, to
keep in touch with their cultural activities, such as seminars
and book fairs. |
